My Engineers ToolRoom BL12 -24 which is is the same as a Chester Craftsman, came with a VFD fitted as part of the deal, we set up. (I chose a 1.5 hp 3 phase motor to replace the original 2 hp single phase unit )
It has worked without problems for 16 years, if that is anything to go by.
IF it can be considered a problem, only one of the sheaves of the pulley on the new 3 phase motor could be used, reducing me to "only" 6 ratios where the VFD could vary the speed. Originally the lathe would have had 12 fixed ratios (Back gear included )
So any problems are likely to be around physically mounting the motor and finding a belt of the right length.
The VFD is fed through a suppressed 13 Amp socket, to minimise risk of feeding anything back up the mains to cause problems with TV or Radio. No problems in our house, or mentioned by any neighbours on the same phase.

Why do I ALWAYS spot the typo after hitting SEND?
