Does any reader have a good working knowledge of the Thiel 158 milling machine – or know anyone who does?

I have lost power feed to the Y axis. There must be a shear pin somewhere that has failed, but where?! I know about the main one on the left hand side of the column and that one is intact.

Hopefully someone will be able to help.

          Hi
          Try this site
BUT they do not have a manual for the 158 but it may be a starting point for you
          good luck

            Hi Bob

Thanks for your suggestion. I do have a manual, but it must be based on a later type of machine than mine because there are several differences in it and crucially no shear pin is shown.

              Hi Rob

Thanks for your input. I will check on the detent next time I can get to my workshop – I’m away at work now. The Y axis did overrun the normal travel limit, but I don’t remember any problem afterwards with the feed selector not being able to engage. I engaged the selector but there just wasn’t any feed. That is why I wondered about the hidden shear pin.

                Hi Rob

Managed to have a look at the milling machine. When I select Y axis power feed, the detent rises and when it is deselected, the detent drops. I have tried to remove the selector lever but looks like I need a puller to get it off – possibly a burr on the shaft, then I can have a look inside the detent mechanism.

                  Hi Rob

Many thanks indeed for that useful bit of information. Looks like a partial strip down is required!
