Last night i accidently pressed a button on my readout and was not sure how to go back to get out of it, so like a fool i pressed anything on the panel. This was the wrong thing to do, call it a senior moment.

The x axis for one turn of the handle on the lathe gives me 2mm travel.

The readout now only shows 0.8mm of travel for the full revolution of the handle.

        Readout is a Sino SDS6 -2v Unit.

Can anyone guide me as to how to re-set the calibration so that one turn of 2mm travel shows the same on the readout please?

        The Y axis is fine??

        Any help appreciated.

If you don't have a manual you should be able to find a downloadable version on the internet. Alternatively PM me yourE-Mail and I can send a pdf copy via a file transfer service.

As I read the manual the calibration set process is :-

          1) Switch on and press the decimal point button whilst the DRO is doing its start up and initialisation thing.

          2) X line of the display should read S, X(key), X RESLN

          3) Key in the number to select desired resolution viz, 0 for 10 µm, 1 for 1 µm, 2 for 2 µm, 5 for 5 µm, 7 for 0.1 µm, 8 for 0.2 µm, 9 for 0.5 µm,

          4) Hit Enter key

          5) Down arrow key for Y axis

          6) Repeat down arrow key to step though X & Y direction and out of the setting routine.

          7) If the direction is wrong put in 0 for poistive direction count and 1 for negative when you see DIR in the axis window.

          Hope this helps.

Have you switched from metric to imperial. 2mm is 0.08 give or take. You also seem to be a factor of 10 out.

            It does look strange.

            regards Martin

Seems that loosing the calibration setting for obscure and hard to reproduce reasons is a rather rare, but not unknown, occurrence with Sino DRO systems.

For example my SDS2 had a glitch that stripped the calibration a couple of times before I discovered that the on-off switch was occasionally not working correctly. Fixed that by leaving it permanently on and switching off vial the mains switch. Was supposed to be a temporary measure until I got another switch. As of now until is around 14 years and counting ….

Need to be positive with the buttons too. Sort-of half or too light press can cause funnies. I set my mount up a bit too loose initially so a "proper" press tended to move the display unit around. Nipped it up a touch to "push-to-move" rather than "just swivel" and all has been fine since.

Thank you for the replies. It all helped.
I did overlook that one turn of the handle may measure 2mm but it’s taking 4mm off the diameter. Once I realised that. I was on the right road.
The button that I must have pressed was1/2 which I took as a selection of one or two. This actually divided the measurement by half, so half of 8 was the four I was looking for and half of that which was the traverse movement gave me the result. It took me about an hour to stop laughing.
I am not bright at the best of times 🤭

If you all understand the above your better men than me

Clive you are right it was strange. But it was me who made it so. I can get carried away and should have thought about it more instead of pressing buttons straight away.
