      Hi there,

Any interest for another 3-5 day machine scraping seminar again like we had in 2014 in Norway and Sweden? We are contemplating hosting a class, maybe in Copenhagen next year. I am referring to a Richard King machine scraping and alignment 3 to 5 day classes and at this point I am just trying to get an idea of how many would be interested. As last time. I have no intention to earn anything on this, and will also not be responsible for organizing a class (apart from helping out if we could make one class up here in Scandinavia).

Pls. feel free to call me at my cell phone +47 92036935 or my emails jshaugjord@norsonic.com or jsv-h@frisurf.no if you have some interest in the topic.

      Kind rgds

Hi Gents I'll bump this up to the top again, I am sure there must be people who are interested, what time of year were you thinking?

            Hello there,

At the moment nothing is fixed, but there have at least been a volunteer host in Copenhagen, Denmark, and we have suggested late spring/early summer next year as a target" time (to fit the teachers schedule). I will probably go down to our suggested host sometime next month to have a chat, so will be able to have more information after that.

              Hello again,
We have fixed the date and location now. There are 2 consecutive Richard King scraping classes planned in April 2017, first in Denmark then in Norway. If someone are interested pls. contact me or Richard directly.

                Hi,

i just thought it may be interesting to see the quality of work that a motivated person can do after one of these courses and some elbow grease Jan Sverre is ongoing with a complete restoration/rebuild of a Myford 7 (not a Myford man myself so not sure on the exact model) and also a Raglan.

Here is the myford as rescued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OfAFhj2eQ0

and here it is after finished with the bed: **LINK**

I understand from Jan Sverre that he is doing the Myford completely with hand scraping. No expensive power scraper required. Although they do come up regularly on well known auction sites. Jan Sverre is much further along than just the bed and many more videos are available on this, the raglan and a very impressive schaublin 52 mill rebuild:

Edited to get the links to work.

If anyone does attend this course, I would be interested in a write up for MEW.

Drop me a pm or email if you are interested.

We've really got to up our game on the engineering front in Britain, it's a wonder we still have any left. I would be thrilled if people in my area actually arranged classes like they are in Scandinavia.

Time for me to start forming a hertfordshire club I think. Probably more appropriate.

You won't do that teaching scraping. Scraping on a day-to-day engineering basis has largely gone the way of planing & shaping – you won't find many courses teaching the use of those machines either. To move forward requires well educated school leavers choosing a vocational path to learn 3D CAD, CAM & 5 axis machining – not manual labour techniques required to rectify parts that could't be machined to the required tolerances on the machines employed in the '50s & '60s

(who has had the privilege of working along side several excellent machine tool fitters, for whom a scraper was an extension of their right arm)
