Hi all.

Just a quick one

What are motorcycle number plates made of ?

Find them very easy to work with eg bend drill cut..

But a real bugger to get the reflective bit off

so would like to buy some before it becomes a number plate

Some are acrylic, some are ABS.

What properties are you seeking that motorcycle number plates have?

If its some type of plastic its probably/certainly available in sheet form from lots of stockist.

VC, have you tried a hot air gun to aid removal of the reflective layer ?

Bit like looking up a word in a dictionary that you cant spell.

The plastic I'm looking for is not the stuff that you can buy in the DIY stores as this just cracks.

So still in the dark.

1. Acrylic and

Look for Makralon polycarbonate sheet, it was machine guards are made of, impact resistant and does not crack like acrylic.

If you use polycarbonate, DO NOT use Loctite on any screws that you use to secure it. It attacks the polycarbonate.

It wicks into any cracks and can cause splits. Other solvents can do this as well.

Polycarbonate is available at B&Q but only as large sheets of thin 2mm material.

Available in allsorts of sizes online.
