Thought I would post this for any fellow Myford lathe owners.

Having bought a Super 7 at a Myford open day, some 14 years ago, I decided it was time to protect the investment by having it professionally serviced. In a past issue of MEW, we spotted a service being offered by 2 ex Myford employees, Darren Boden, a lathe fitter with over 35 years experience, and Peter, who used to work on the spares counter. I duly contacted them and they arrived on time and did an absolutely first class job. The lathe now runs like a swiss watch, every bit as good as the first day it left the factory.

It was great to chat with them and they were extremely patient and only too happy to answer my many questions and demonstate the methods of adjusting an looking after the lathe.

For any fellow lathe owners out there, in a similar position, I cannot recommend them too highly.

+1 for Darren & Peter; not a cheap service, but well worth doing IMHO. Reassuring to know the lathe is OK and within spec!

If you do avail yourself of their services, do mention any problems you may be having; they can't carry spare parts for everything, but if they know in advance that (say) the clutch bearings are goosed, then they can bring along both the spares for the job and the tools to do it with. If the thing's in bits for servicing anyway, it's often no big deal to replace worn or broken bits whilst they're at it.

They advertise their prices quite openly in ME – £275 plus mileage, no VAT (p404 ME 8-3-13).

Wow, £275 for 2 chaps to pop to your house for a day armed with everything to service your lathe & answer all questions, i think this is a total bargin.

Hi Nigel/Mark,

We don't all read ME, so don't see the advert. That seems a very reasonable labour cost, when compared to plumbers and sparks, and the cost of servicing the car.

I knew Peter well, across the spares counter on Open days – Happy Days.

I have called the number but its unavailible .Would anyone know if they are still carrying out servicing . I would like my super 7 to have a full service and any parts updated . I am based in Norfolk but I cannot find anyone here who may be able to carry out this type of work .
