I have completed my Front Wheels,, Flywheel, and Chimney, and am now tring to concentrate on the Boiler, but I have a problem.-

I can find no detail in either the drawings or in L.C.Masons book as to the verticle position of the Firewhole Ring. I know it is fitted central in the Verticle axis, but at what distance from either the top or the bottom of the Plate. Equally I presume this, when finished will then link up with the Backhead – (am i correct in that thinking ?.)

No doubt there are amny of you out there who can give me details of the measurement I seek.

When I have eventually completed the boiler I will post photos of where I have got to.

      In anticipation….MANY THANKS

Malcolm According to my copy of Mason's book page 18 the centre of the fire hole ring is 2 1/16 inches from top of boiler

            Hello.

Based on my sums, if you look at the section drawing of the boiler.

4.5” from the top of the outer rapper to the bottom of the bulkhead.
Plus 0.250” to the base of the fire box gives you 4.750” less the 2.0625” from the outer wrapper to the firebox ring leaving you 2.6875” from the base.

Hello Roy, and Brian, Thank yiou both for your replies.

Roy I am more than ever confused, as I have had another look at page 18, and also read the original Me magazine article and can find no mention of 2 1/6" !!!

Brian, thanks for your calculation ity does seem that within a smidge it does not matter. I find dealing with imperial measurements is confusing . Therefore I tend to convert the Imperial to metric ( I have a big chart as a crib sheet).

I will fiddle about with both your ideas and proceed from there

              Best wishes to you both

              Malcolm
