Hi Nigel,

 

I quite agree I have had nothing but good service from both and most of the stuff I buy has lasted really well despite my best ham fisted efforts to destroy them. Also my Lidl calipers check out extremely well against my Moore and Wright micrometers and are quite consistent and as I only make stuff for myself these days it is all made to fit so no need for extreme precision. I just make stuff and fit parts together using time honoured methods.

 

I bought one of the Lidl hoists as they had a couple on remnant price of £25.00 to get rid. Not used it yet though so can’t comment on it’s worth.

Bit off-topic but bought 4 large water butts from Aldi which were actually a very high quality brand bought in bulk and sold for significantly less than the same item at the garden centre. Staff cheerfully ordered some extra when their initial delivery was out of stock and even helped me carry them to the car. They do do some very high quality bargains as well as a lot of cheap & cheerful stuff, and a few total duds!
