Hello,

I am Simon, from France, new on this forum. I am leading a machining website in France and would like to start it in the UK. I would be glad to give you the name of the site but I wouldn't like some of you believe that I am advertising it. This website helps connects small companies and individuals with machinists for custom machined parts. It is the leading site in France, created 2 years ago.

The key thing for me now is to find the right keyword that help the site to be well positionned in Google in the UK.

May I dare ask you this question :

What would typically someone type in Google to purchase a simple custom machined part ? .

Would he type typically in Google :

" custom machined parts" or

" machining a part" or

…. ?

Not being a native British speaker, I would really apreciate your opinion about it. That would help a lot.

I don't live in the UK but Machinist 4u or custom parts 4u is what i would call it if there isn't some one else using the same name.

I am not 100% sure but in google there may be something like catagory setting so searches willl link to your site.

Sounds like an interesting and usefull website though!

What am I looking for? That is the question.

If I am looking for "custom machined parts" ie parts made just for me, then I would type exactly that.

Just typed "custom machined parts" into Google and a range of suitable supplier and associated suppliers (like CAD etc.) is shown as a result.

SEO stuff is very complicated

First there's the algorithm, then there's the amount of time you've been on the net then there's the country you reside in then there's the politics of the entry

A site can completely disappear if google for example chooses

Being a French site makes you even less likely for english speaking hits, plus the French Judiciary have been giving Google a load of flak which IMO will push French based sites down any global hits list

You will need to experiment with a site for your region to see what works best and it will take months unless you have an already established site

If you have an established site then definitely link your new venture to that one, and take it from there

custom is your key word, and synonyms like prototype, bespoke etc

Yes the situation is someone who want to purchase a part made just for him. For example this part, found on the web.:

"custom machined parts" is a typical sentence typed in english.

any other sentence would be typed by the typical british gentleman ?

I better understand it now. It's like freelancers.com for machinists… I'm astonished that I appear to be able to get teh gist of most of the site! Incroyable!

I will let the link stand as otherwise people will wonder what this is all about. if you go for an English version, then I am sure we would be happy to sell you advertising!

Thank you Neil for having a look. You're right, it's like a freelance site. I hope that it may interest British machinists, your site may indeed the good place to advertise to invite them. We did that in France at launch with the leading machining forum.

Congratulations for getting a gist of it, if it's not thanks to your French, then it means that machining is a universal language !

Hello,

We had this discussion almost a year ago and I am pleased to let you know that we created the UK site http://www.machining-4u.co.uk.

A big thank to XD 351 who gave us the idea of the website name!

The site will soon be able to fly and hopefully, Neil, we'll soon have some advertising budget to support the forum.

Thanks to all of you for the good ideas that boosted our motivation us to move forward and create the site.
