      Hi Everyone,

Not sure if this thread is still 'live' but I'm rebuilding a Downham Mini-Jig Borer!

My problem is a missing support strap (not sure what it's called but I've marked it in photo 2 with a red blob).

What I could do with is a scale drawing (or tracing from the part) so that I could make up a new one from a bit of scrap plate.

I've also posted this question on another thread (hope that's not breaking the rules!) to reach as many people as possible.

      Thanks

      Zeek

The only thing I can think against a small jig borer is that they tend to have less table capacity relative to a similar size mill.

            Thanks Michael,

            Newbie error! 'Thought they were JPEGs – they were GIFs … Let's try again;

            (my thanks to lathes.co.uk).

To reiterate, my problem is a missing support strap (not sure what it's called but I've marked it in photo 2 with a red blob).

What I could do with is a scale drawing (or tracing from the part) to get the dimensions, so that I could make up a new one from a bit of scrap plate.

            Thanks again, Zeek.

              Hi Zeek,

This is my support strap. I'll get it measured up for you and post the details.

These are the measurments from my bracket. The machine is imperial and the tolerances are reasonably wide for this bracket. Let me know if I missed something.

                  Gwilym – Brilliant!

That's just what I needed. As you say, luckily (unlike the rest of the machine) it's not a precision part thank goodness.

I'm also relieved that it's only 1/8" steel – didn't fancy cutting that profile from 1/4"!

                  Thanks again, Zeek.

                    Hi Guys,

I'm still restoring my borer, but have one small issue.

The oiling point on the quil has got some unusual (at least for me…) oiler – it is just a couple of slit rubber/plastic membranes held my some sort of washer push fitted into the hole on the quill – sory for amateurish termonilogy.

Mine one is broke – do you know where I could get replacement parts?

I have created an "Elliot jig borer" album if you want to have a look – I'm struggling to insert photos from there in here…

                    Cheers,

                    Martin
