Anyone got any suggestions for a supplier of "traditional" 1/2" HSS parting blades? I have had a look at the normal suspects but can't see one listed anywhere? Seems everyone is turning to new fangled insert style tools!

      Thanks,

      Paul.

          Hi Paul

My standard ones are Eclipse but it is a long time since I have purchased one. It might be worth searching under the brand name to see if anything comes up.

An alternative is the T type blade sold by Eccentric Engineering ( advert this page ) but I note these are actually 12 mm rather than 1/2" so may not fit your toolholder. The T shape can also be problematic with some holders. On the plus side they are available in a number of widths, the construction makes for easier parting with less jams and the material is Cobalt HSS, so harder than standard HSS..

Sounds a bit like an advert but I don't get a discount – just a happy user of a number of their products.

          Pero

            Hi Paul,

Seems Chronos has HSS 1/2" spare parting off blades, they also have the T type Chipbreaker Blades. I have one of the T type blades from Chronos and it works well. Tracy Tools also list 1/2" blades.

MSC do the Eclipse ones starting from 1/2 and going upwards.

Thanks gents, I must have missed them on Chronos site, didn't think of MSC, good call. Appreciate it.

                  Paul.

A link below to a big US based industrial supply firm's parting blades. Large variety, probably decent quality, but quite expensive.

I have also had some from a local tool sales firm who get theirs from Groz in India. ONE in the pack of 4 I bought was good HSS and cut nicely, the others I am quite sure were mild steel – total rubbish and not usable.
