how long is ok

just starting to clean up my boiler shell and i am using a citric acid pickle of just about 1 gallon of water and 100g of citric acid if thats anough citric i dont know going by the site you just mix till it does the job now some of the nastys have come off but some is being stubbon how long is it safe to leave it in there for and is there any tips?

Hi Michael,

That sounds abit weak to me, but all that means is it will take longer. I'm assuming you used easy-flo flux? It can supposedly be removed just by boiling. I use phosphonic acid descaler which is available as a descaler and it shifts flux like nobodies business.

I would have thought you could leave your boiler in citric acid of that strength almost indefinitely.

You can also try warming it up – at school we were told the rule of thumb that chemical reactions go twice as fast for a 10-degree rise in temperature.

hi neil i thort it may be abit weak i only got the 100g i thort it would be ok i havent solderd yet this is just tring to clean up the last of the anealling process before i rivet in the strip and solder the join in the barrel, indefinitely sounds good atleast i wont have a mushy blob haha il get some more citric acid tomorow.
