I’ve just bought a new (second hand) computer with a bigger screen to improve drawing facilities.
I have been trying to log on to HMEM for a few days now but get the same page each time – The home page heading, the list of today’s postings down the left hand side but the rest of the page blank save for the following legend within a small box ………
An Error Has Occurred !
Sorry Guest, you are banned from this forum
Although I did used to visit it frequently to be honest I’m not sure if I’ve even registered on this particular forum. I certainly do not remember making any kind of posting – but, just in case I had, when this first occurred I tried logging in using my normal user name – Ramon – and usual password and the box changed to the same legend but this time – ‘Sorry Ramon, you are banned from using this forum’. (My underlining, both counts)
Thinking that this may possibly be due to the site being down I have tried again tonight with the same outcome however this time logging on does not result in it stating ‘I’m’ being banned just ‘guest’
Now I’m absolutely certain that I haven’t done anything to get banned so what’s gone wrong ? Anyone had any experience of this situation or is it as I suspect -that this may be due to something switched on or not in said new box of tricks.
(To check this thought however when I re-connected the old laptop up to the internet and opened the HMEM page I got the same result )
There is no means on the page to contact anyone so it’s a dead end from sitting here
So, if any one has any ideas on how to solve this mystery I would be very pleased to hear how to go about it
Was corresponding with someone last week with exactly the same problem, they don’t visit much and it just kept saying they were banned when thy tried to login.
As an aside to the above I have just asked a friend to visit the site and see what transpires – he got the home page up immediately and could enter all the listings without problems.
He then tried to log in with my user name and password and got the immediate response as above but this time specific to my name ie not ‘guest’
However he then tried to register with his own name and password and got exactly the same response! It would appear that HMEM has definitely got an aversion to ‘Ramon’ and somehow once recognised will not let go!!
I know there are several members on here who are regulars on HMEM so if any one can help in any way me get back to accessing this forum I would appreciate it – I can assure you I have done aboslutely nothing to warrant a ban
Surely, but surely – there can’t be two Ramon’s
Thanks Dennis just seen your post. I’m not too au fait with the machinations of these infernal machines but I think I’m using IE 6 on Windows XP.
Thanks Jason I will do so straight away. The computer came from a local reputable business Norman and apart from this one issue appears to be just perfect.
I just wrote a lengthy email explaining the situation to Jasons link only to lose the lot but …. having just come back on here I see Tel a big thanks is in order – everything is now working fine.
I really wasn’t sure I’d registered as normally I keep any confirmation emails but none are on file and I certainly don’t remember doing so – age thing again I guess! – however just incase you are wondering I’m sure the reason I hadn’t posted on there was because I felt that to do so as well as on here would be a bit overkill.
I have enjoyed my visits however as I do enjoy seeing and reading about others work so will certainly not allow myself to get banned again
As always thanks to all for your responses and particularly to you Tel for sorting it out – what a great ‘club’ this is
Its proberbly a situation similar to another forum that I use, new members must use the forum within 10 days of signing on or lose it. I think its to get rid of some of the rubbish we get. or as it says on the site, to make sure your not a sSPAMMER or SPAMBOT.
Hi Ramon, my computor is on ZP with IE6, and if I go to various sites it tells me to upgrade to IE 8, we no longer support IE 6, but still its better than my old Windows 98.. Ian S C
I was not a little alarmed to see the word ‘banned’ glaring out with what felt like a neon light surround but can understand the situation so no harm done just glad to be able to gain access again.
Yes Tel, a fair request so will post something tonight – I’ve had a fair break from machining since finishing the Eta’s but am about to continue working on a languishing stationary engine project which should do nicely.
I had a similar experience, being banned from the madmodder website. I had registered then when I went back in to activate I found I had been banned.
The answer had been that the website had an anti-spam programme built in, and the last person to use the IP address that I had used had tried to push phony viagra tablets or something and the IP address had been banned.
No, I didn’t have a clue how all this worked either, but seemingly everytime you log on you pick up the next available IP address. Or something similar. So I have been told. It may even be true, I don’t know!
