I strongly suspect you are right. The GFN insert looks to be a sort of industry std part, although I've not seen any reference to a common std such as ISO.
Interestingly, Cutwel market a "GFN" parting system" that they say is "compatible with other manufacturers blades and tool holders". And sure enough, the recommended Iscar inserts are identified as "GFN" parts.
Interestingly (and just to confuse matters), APT Tools list GFN inserts – but they also list GTN style which look similar. Perhaps a phone call might clarify.
Note that both Iscar and Korloy (Cutwel) market an insert for aluminium parting (different chipbreaker geometry and uncoated). I have some of these but can't yet report how they differ in practice.
