Economy Hit & Miss (possible build)

I am considering building the Economy hit and miss engine as sold by The Engineers Emporium.

Has anyone here made one. If so how did it transpire.? There is an excellent build log of one here :- **LINK**

It's a reasonable sized engine having twin 10 1/2" flywheels. But nowhere online can I find out the bore and stroke of the rascal. Anybody know.?

Hi Nick,

My wife bought me the materials/casting kit last year for my birthday at Doncaster show. Better deal than online. Various interupting projects since buying, including lathe change, plus now final fettling, polishing and painting stage of my Stuart beam means will be able to start it shortly, ( next couple of months if nothing interupts again ).

Away from home until late Thursday but if you have not resolved by then i will check out the ( comprehensive ) manual you get with it and post details.

It will be too complex for you

Though if you do get it running I have a nice set of drawings for a drag saw you could mount it on, at that scale it would be about 6-7ft long

Andrew J has a part made one so may be able to share some details, I'm not sure what HP original it is based on so bit hard to say from comparing to full size, they did quite a range from about 1HP upto 12 or 14HP.

Probably.

I have seen videos of full size hit and miss engines coupled to ice cream makers. – That would get far more use than turning a saw.

There is a guy down under that casts the parts for model ice cream churns though they would not be too hard to fabricate.

They were used to do all sorts of jobs, may be something here for your lady

That comes up quite similar to my 1/3rd scale Galloway which is 1.75" bore (44mm) x 3.375" stroke ( 86mm)

Looking at Nick G's link I would say its 1 – 2hp, I've never seen anything bigger in this country at our Rally's.
