Good advice, thanks Dr Raphael, re not going out unless important / hand washing. Take care of yourself and best of luck.

I think keeping calm is important to beat or at least fight this pandemic too. High stress and panic about things out of our control is not good for anyone.

The good news, a Canadian biotech firm reckons they have the cure, will have it ready to go by November

… or the CBC report which says it will take a year. Take your pick!

Concerning news from the Western ( Australian ) Front. There have been adequate supplies of toilet paper in the local supermarket for the last two days running.

Obviously this is very concerning for the desperately needed toilet paper-led economic recovery. Our only hope now is for a flow-on effect from the increased sales of baked beans.

Fortunately we live in an effluent society but I am uncertain how others will fare. Perhaps the government could issue senna pods on a daily basis to those bunged up with surplus rolls.

Hopper is right to be concerned about the economic effects. These are likely to last for up to a decade ( or more ) and the associated indirect death toll could well exceed that of the virus by an order of magnitude. The worst affected will be those in third world countries where on income equals on food and there is no social services back-up.

Obviously it is up to us to keep on shopping so don't delay on the new mill Hopper!

Keep healthy everyone and do follow the medical advice. This is not the time for silly bravado.

              Cheers

              Pero

Only a year to go… sigh

Can they bring back non-stop Brexit news please

And they are calling it a "potential vaccine". But the main point is their plant-based methodology cuts the initial development time from months down to weeks so the testing phase will get started that much earlier.

It remains to be seen whether authorities will insist on the usual long testing period that would result in a one year wait from now. Or will they, under dire circumstances, waive the usual testing periods and accelerate the process? They would have to weigh up the risks from a short test period against the risks from extended coronavirus spread during that same period.

Then with Donald Trump facing election in November 2020 he is a good chance to make an executive order and get the vaccine out there before the normal testing period is over. Chinese leaders could be quite likely to do the same too if they develop a prospective vaccine.

My GP told me: "We will be the test". He seems to think the normal testing processes will be abbreviated so the vaccine would be available well before the one year mark, more in line with the normal five to six months for the development of annual flu vaccines. Given the levels of public panic and anxiety already, it seems quite likely to me too.

The value of the small amount of shares I own has dropped dramatically due to the Corona Virus panic. I'm wondering if this would be a good time to buy some more.

Haha. That is the 64 million dollar question. Lot of people thought so yesterday and the Dow went up by a lot. But in such unstable times its just as likely to go back down and then some more. But if you buy good quality blue chip shares and keep them for at least 5 years when all this is ancient history, you have a very good chance of making a profit. Trying to buy low and sell high in the short term is simply a guessing game akin to gambling. Do it only with money you can afford to lose.

As Hopper says, If you can wait 5yrs+ then an excellent time to invest in share types that should survive (as in we can expect many holiday and airline and entertainment companies to go under but construction, electronics, mining, pharmaceuticals etc will always bounce). A lot depends on your personal demographic – i.e survival chances. I know I'm not in the best group so tying up funds my heirs would have to sell short term isn't wise.

Don't worry, Brexit will be back!

Returning to Coranavirus, I happen to have a mild cold at the moment. Bit of a snivel, hint of sore-throat, slight cough and I sneeze a couple of times per hour. Not sure if I should self-isolate or risk being lynched by my relatives at today's family do. Decided to ring a bell and shout 'unclean, unclean' as I arrive. I expect my dinner will be eaten at the end of the garden.

Seriously though, my symptoms are identical to early Coronavirus. I guess a fair amount of disruption will occur because everyone will have to treat normal bugs as if they're the real McCoy until they're sure it's a false alarm. Also, the start of an perfectly ordinary cold will be unnecessarily frightening. The whole thing is a pain in the fundament. What should I do if my mother, who lives alone, needs care?

In case anyone is worried I don't have a bad cough or fever, and even if I did the Forum is safe. Atchoo.

I think the recent change of tactic by the Government regarding the calling of 111 only after 7 days of having the virus is a retrograde step. Any data concerning the spread or increase in the numbers affected will be 7 days out of date. Thus any measures taken to combat the virus based on this data will always be playing catch-up.

                                              Regards

EDMES were taking appropriate precautions at the meeting last night with 1m separation enforced cheeky except it fell down during the tea break so lets hope Dave who handled all the mugs isn't a super spreader. 17 people there although it doesn't look it. A few stayed away to avoid getting elected onto the committee.
So it is safe to come along if we are still having meetings next month, Actually a very convenient location next to Morissons that not only had loads of TP in the usual aisle but it was stacked up all over the place – definitely no shortage. (unlike Asda Bristol on Thursday with no TP nor any tinned veg or meat )

It has been a very stressful week and making sure all my patients are safe and well looked after with weekend plans. We have been constantly updated with up to date guidelines and flow plans in preparation for this situation. Not to be negative but my chances of exposure is very high and its a matter of time for me. I will accept this and continue to look after my elderly patients until I can't. Hoping that our NHS can cope with this. Best way to minimise chances of getting this is to avoid going out in public unless it is important. Hand washing and properly scrubbing all your fingers and applying alcohol gel if you have it. Be safe everyone.

                                                    That's it in a nutshell.

That's why I spent most of my money on beer, fast women and loose motorcycles. The rest, I wasted.

Over here it is beer, loose women and FAST motorcycles, wink wink

                                                    Bill

I believe that the beer should deserve an adjective too, strong, tasty etc. wink

The severity of this virus is being wound-up to make cover for the economic meltdown we're going through that is being almost completely ignored by the traditional media.

Such a disservice to us all. frown
