      HiAll,

Just wondering if I have made an error in describing this tooling? Is it a 5C fitting please. if not I will have to cancel the listing. There was a note with it saying 5C but someone has queried it. indecision3step5c 3.jpg

It works with a step chuck closer that mounts to the spindle.

Looks very much like the Smart and Brown collets. Is the thread close to 25mm?

It's not a 5C collet. 5C's are 1.48" dia at the angled / big end, 1.25" dia in the middle, and have 1 1/4" – 20 threads. Your collet is nearly 5" dia at the big end.

Very handy one to have though, if you've got the socket and closer for it.

Good luck with selling it. JD

Step collet for a 5C spindle as first reply subject to conformation of thread size.

Have a look at the Hardinge site and you will see them. A closing ring has to be used on teh spindle which in effect increases the taper dia of a standard 5C and applies pressire to teh outside unlike the cheap %C step collets that use a normal 5C taper which does not put much closing force onto teh OD especially as they get larger.

                  Page 8 shows them well

Thanks guys, I live and learn!

The parallel part of the shank is 31.75mm and the trheaded section is approx 31.3mm
