I recently brought a Chipmaster that needs a bit of TLC, a few questions that some forum members may be able to help with!:

      Drive train:

The variator seems to be OK, I think it just needs adjustment, it is relatively quiet, it slips slightly at higher speed however. (Should I just forget it and replace it with an inverter driven motor?)

      – Where can I source a new set of resilient mounts for the motor / variator unit, I contacted 600 Machinery and got no help. The originals have perished / collapsed.

      – Any tips on obtaining the specific oil for the variator, I have managed to locate the correct type, but can only purchase in 20L lots!

      – The clutch lever is not like others I've seen, it is a shaft that is just cross drilled to accept the lever, I have adjusted the matrix clutch so that it works correctly, but the lever in the engaged position is essentially in line with the chuck, how is the lever position adjusted?

      Accessories:

      – Has anyone got opinions on the HBM D1-3 direct mount chucks (as supplied by RDG)? Should I dive straight in and buy a Bison?

      – Has anyone got opinions on the QC toolposts supplied by RDG?

      Thanks!

Don't know if you ever got the oil for your variator, but I ended up purchasing a 20L pail for my chipmaster, so would be happy to send you the 2L required at cost.

You should join the yahoo colchester group and ask on there , very helpful when i was stuck for various work-arounds for my master.

If you still need variator mounting feet, try here: **LINK**

For all the oils for my Chippy, I went to: **LINK**

I have found the RDG QC toolpost completely adequate for my requirements.

When I needed to replace resilient mounts on a motor, I went to a rubber moulder in Slough and they replaced the rubber and cured it, so the motor now has better mounts, not quite as soft as the originals because the "holes" on not there now. If I wanted to do it again I would make a metal pattern and get them to use that to produce the perfect mount.

Bison are quite adequate i have two 5 1/4" one was used on an ML7 20 yrs ago now needs new jaws.

The HBM are just rebranded chinese made items available by other brand names elsewhere. Adequate as long as you dont do anything strenuous, the scroll and jawas will tilt and or wear quickly. Got an 8" D1-4.

Mixed feelings on the toolposts i did enquire two years ago and may have been given wrong answer. T1 Myford ish, T2 Boxford size regarded as same cr height, not so my Dicksons a lot larger and seemingly small. Theres also the cost of the tool posts.

I went for the chinese 250 series in the end then bought 3 more, gave one away, one for rear toolpost and two spare. Gloster do the holders for less than £20 each. Theyre ok but not as good as a proper Dickson made item.
