Centec2 Milling Machine

I have a Centec 2 milling machine. There is no mechanism for raising the table apart from the lever at the rear or by turning the bolts that lock the height. Can anyone tell me how the machine was originally fitted?

Hi Dont know much about Centecs, but i assume you mean like at the bottom of this page link which shows a machine badged /sold as a `Granville`.

Centec2's are a bit basic, you'll note on the GM link someone has fitted a cheapy digital readout to use the bolts that lock the height.

Many have been modified with various forms of screw jacks under the knee. yours is clearly original.

On the plus side gearing via belts is nice and quiet.

Hi Brian, Dave is right, the Centec 2 is the first model of the breed and is basic. If your one looks like the two photos below, then that's what you have.

The lever on the back turns a cam, which lifts and lowers the knee.

Nick is right about that particular 'breed' – the ones with a removable overarm – which could be replaced by a vertical head (hence the pulley on the back of the machine). The predecessor, the Centec, had a fixed overarm -so was only a horizontal mill.

They clearly had not thought about progressing the original design or they would have called it the Centec1.

Thank you Nick and Dave. My machine does have the jack, I assumed it originally had a better system.
