        Hi,

I have a current project that requires me to bore out some holes to just less than 12mm. I can do it on the lathe but I would also like to have a boring head for use with my Warco VMC mill. I would like to buy a boring head and some cutting tools that will kind of future proof my purchase. Anybody any advice as to what size head I should buy? If I buy say a 62mm head does this prevent me from boring small holes or if I buy say a 30mm does this prevent me from boring large holes?

Recent thread on buying a boring head here

Big head will do smal holes but small head won't do big.

A one size fits all? No chance…..

Just think about it, buying a 2" boring head, max you could you with that would be about 3" without losing rigidity….even thats pushing it…but then it depends on the design…

I bought an Arrand boring head a few years ago on a 2MT taper to suit my little chinese mill, I suspect it is a 2" head but it doesn't say. It is beautifully made, works faultlessly, and I have to admit I have been known to just get it out and look at it!

Thanks Jason, that thread seems to have eluded me for some reason. Apologies for starting this very similar thread.
