I found a fellow in the Deep South of Namibia, having a hobby in Model Steam Engine building – The one and only fellow here! However circumstances dictate that he get rid of his bits and pieces, one of which is an ALBA 2S shaper! I have been looking for a shaper for many years, and advise on this site has been that I should jump at it – So I did. He will send it up from his farm in the south ( 900km away) , on the back of his trucks full of tomatoes, to Windhoek, our capital, 360km away from me, and I will collect at month end. And start another refurbishment , after my V10 Lathe…

        Joe.

After seeing the superb refurb you have done on the V10, I will really look forwards to seeing this Shaper refurb.

That looks pretty good, except for the dust which I expect you are used to dealing with.  Is there any tooling included?

Your research into Alba has probably already revealed that Alba were taken over by Elliott, and the Alba shapers were renamed and sold as Elliotts. I think the Alba 2S became Elliott 14S. But just go by the stroke length.

As a starter into shapers, theres an article from Popular Mechanics her: http://www.eurospares.com/graphics/Tools/shapers/PMKnowYourShaper.pdf

Direct floor standing. No cabinet mounting, nice.

Has the all important original vice. Very nice.

                    Great find, Joseph

… Looking forward to seeing its restoration.

I'm rather in awe of the 1260km journey it will be making to reach your workshop.

Seagoing distances are nothing in those vast countries. Must cost them a fortune in fuel.

One from Australia: They asked a chap by the road where a relatives farm was because it was local

"follow the road down there and turn left at the oil drum mate, no worries"

It turned out to be ninety miles to the oil drum, and forty to the front door
