      help required I wish to make a new half nut for my Boxford Cud Lathe the lead screw is 8 tpi ,

      I have been offered a acme tap of 8 tpi X 5/8 does anybody now what dia the lead screw is as I'm unable to measure mine as I'm away for a few days holiday thanks in anticipation

          It could be 3/4 inch diameter. Best to check before launch I think.

            Also check whether RH or LH

            Don’t know about Boxfords but Myfords are LH

              My Boxford ME10a is 3/4 inch RH leadscrew.

                Years ago I had a large lathe with the half nuts worn out. I made a fixture to hold the half nuts in the correct orientation on the lathe faceplate. I welded up the half nuts with cast iron rod, then annealed them for machinability, remounted them on the fixture and single-pointed the threads. If you single point them you don't have to find a tap.
