Would anyone be interested in starting a SMEE in the Bridlington/Hornsea/ Driffield area? Contact me and we can meet up to discuss.

I am based in Driffield, I don’t have much spare time due to work etc, but I would possibly join a SMEE or similar and attend meetings in the Evening when I could. My interests are stationary engines and tools, rather than building & operating Railway Engines.

As you maybe aware the nearest SMEE’s are Hull, York and Pickering, a good half hour to an hours drive away.

Having given this a bit of thought,

Perhaps you could start a, “group within a group”, by joining the Driffield Men’s Shed.

I believe they have members who are interested in Electronics, 3D printing, Bicycle Repairs as well as the usual Woodturning, Planters and Bird Boxes, so maybe that would be a way of recruiting interested persons.

They have a plethora of woodworking machinery and tools, but also have a large Milling machine, Colchester Bantam Lathe and welding equipment. They will also have the required Insurance and seem attract a useful amount of funding.

They currently only meet on two Weekdays, no Evenings, which is why I haven’t yet  joined them.

If it is a track for running Engines, then perhaps the Wolds Railway at Fimber would be open to letting you start a club on their land, there is no space at the Men’s Shed.

The first thing I did upon seeing this post, is to look at your profile to see what your interests are, and where you are located. Unfortunately there is no information there, you may get more interest if you introduce yourself to potential members.

        Mark.
