      Hi all

I am at the brake fitting stage on my 0 6 0 Rob Roy chassis, but I can find little information on what is the best way to go about it. On the plans they are none existent and the book just gives the basic information with very small diagrams. Has anybody out there gone to the trouble of fitting brakes.

I am not to sure about the brake hangers , are they square pieces of metal hanging down with a slot cut in them to except the rear of each brake shoe. Or do the actual brake shoes have a slot cut into the back of the shoe so that a single strip of metal would suffice for the brake hanger. Only found one image on the net of brakes on a Rob Roy and they appeared to use the latter method, not sure if this would be the best way to go though.

      Cheers Mike

          Mike,

A reasonable amount of detail is in the construction book. The book also shows detail of the cylinder drain cocks. The short answer is your latter description i.e., a strip of metal with a slot cut into the back of the shoe.

              Mike,

Do you want me to try and scan the detail for you?

Dang! I posted some pics of a different loco that uses a similar arrangement that may have helped you, but my own post has succumbed to the mystery disappearing bug:

Thanks for the pics Neil. If you get the time Phil a picture of the underside of the engine would be handy. I have started on the cab operating control ,while waiting for the brake shoe ring casting to be delivered. Good news is I have just air tested the chassis and it worked first time really well, relief ! or what.

                  Cheers Mike

                    Mike,

Sorry for the delay. I have sent a private message to you with the brake details attached. Hope you can read them ok.
