I replaced the bolts on my “real bull” mini lathe with studs& (nylock) nuts many moons ago. If i remember correctly, I just cut m6 bolts to length to use as studs. It is a lot easier to adjust up when required Michael, though as you undoubtedly already know, the front bolts/studs whilst less critical are a bit akward to nip up.
I think i temporarily removed the saddle gearing assembly last time i did this properly.
PS, if you trawl the interweb, some people fit longer, thicker gib bars(usually BMS bar) whilst doing this mod, commonly 6″ long,1″ projection either side of saddle. Though i’d caution against that on the rear bar at least as it will foul the motor cover when saddle’s very close to the headstock.
Mine has 5″ bars fitted, projecting only to the tailstock side, thought it was a worth the effort. Alll depends how far you want to go.
