I am am thinking of upgrading my aged MALCAR 4.5" x 20" lathe (circa 1954). Due to workshop size I have narrowed my thoughts down to the following lathes:
A, Warco WM 290V
B. Warco GH 550 + DRO
C. Chester Craftesman
Your thoughts, advice or comments from ownership of the above models would be greatly appreciated.
I have a lathe (HBM 290) that is similar to the Warco WM 290, and I am satisfied with mine. It has a 3-phase motor and an inverter. I wish it had a Camlock spindle nose though.
I have an SPG lathe that is similar is size to the WM290, mine didnt have the 3 ph motor and vfd, but I changed the dc motor out myself and installed a 1.5 kw motor and vfd.
Mine has a 38 mm bore and a Camlock nose….well pleased with it…
