I’ve just bought a cheap and cheerful ebay Chinese drill chuck. It’s nothing unusual and has a b16 taper, and takes drill bits from 1 to 13 mm.

It has the problem that once the three jaws semi clamp the drill bit I can go on turning the chuck key for ever without it clamping any further. Does anyone know of a quick fix before I send it back ?

      Thanks

      David

          David,

The keyed sleeve should be a fairly tight press-fit.

… you should find instructions somewhere on-line, for stripping a Jacobs drill chuck.

You could Loctite the parts together; but I would send it back.

            David,

Try this for info on dismantling etc. but really on a new chuck you'd be wiser to demand a working replacement. If you tamper with it and it doesn't cure it they won't take it back.
