Morning, I'm wondering the best mild steel rod for drilling on a lathe?

      EN1A or EN3B?

      Thanks,

EN 1A is the easiest steel to get a smooth finish on that's why it is also known as freecutting. EN3B also easy to machine though. Colin

Taking "mild steel" as being anything with less than 0.3% carbon, one of the tables in the 1963 "Mechanical World Year Book" lists over 30 different EN numbers all with different compositions – so I guess the real answer is greater than that, ie a lot.
