Hello.

I wonder if any of you clever people can help me. I have a box of reamers which were from another model engineer. However the sizes are not all obviously marked but there are other markings.

I wondered if anyone knew if there was a way (other than measuring them) to identify the sizes.

For example – a reamer I measure to be 0.278 inches (7.07mm) is marked:

T.62992

79005

RST TOOLS

Another is a Dormer C4?

Marked T37725

P/N59164

RST TOOLS

On this one the reamer is exactly 0.150 inches 3.78mm – could be 3.7725mm I suppose like the marking? (the shank is 0.250 inches).

They are all marked "RST TOOLS".

I guess they could be specially made items, but it would be nice to know if the numbering helps.

Would question where he got them from. "T" designations suggest they could have been "Specials" made for a manufacturing company.

yes I guess they are specials – I think I have come up against some of these before from a diemaker in the car industry.

I am sure some are for a types of fit – so for example one is 14 thou less than 0.25 – and 14 thou is the interference fit at that size. (Usually I would make the hole standard and put the fit on the shaft, but I guess it works the other way as well..)

I fear that 14thou interference fit on .250 would require the services of a 100 ton press .0014 would be nearer the mark is that what you meant.
