Hi,

Has any one seen or know if there are any type of MT4 shanks or adapters that are threaded with female M16 both ends , its to possibly hold a small boring head which has a M16 threaded spigot on top.

Thought so , its for a mill but my lathe is only mt3 in the head stock so would be rather puzzling to try and use some kind of soft end MT4 arbor (which are available) and drill and drill /tap for M16??

Ive decided to get a soft blank end arbor for now ,at least ill be able to use it in the lathe and mini mill for now whilst i think about how to use it in the Alexander mill that uses MT4 tooling and Deckel s20 x2 butress thead for draw bar etc.

The boring bar head is a pretty nifty (and probably expensive when new)Japanese job which has a M16 threaded spigot thingy on the end ,which i`ll fix to a threaded M16 hole in the blank arbor. So it will be removable and once i get the MT4 sorted ill be able to use it in the MT3 arbor on the lathe and hopefully a different MT4 arbor on the Alexander mill.

You can buy M16 to S20x2 adapters from Germany for around 10 euros each which is why i was hoping to find a MT4 sleeve like in the original post.

One question though i need to buy one or two M16 taps. Are they usually the M16 x 2 thread in the end of tooling or the M16 x 1.5 ???? I assume they are right hand threads?

Its like the one in the photo but mines the slightly older version that takes 10mm square shank and 10 round bars in the face.

Hi Michael not sure what you mean ? You mean on the arbor so i can tighten it along with the two flats on the boring head?

Heres what i have and plan to drill tap the arbor along with recess for the bit on the boring head. The arbor is 40mm diamter compared to 30mm for the boring head.

Well finally got it done for now for use on the MT3 mini mill, i think when i do it for the Mt4 with Deckel thread on the Alexander mill ill add a thread ring thingy so that i can get it out of the mt4 spindle easier.

The boring head is made by KYUSHUKOGU, who ive never heard of ,it cost £45 on ebay including shipping, no idea if i got a good deal or not but its very nicely made.

Ran into another problem as i finished my pulleys on the south bend started spinning without the spindle???? Cant figure that out as they are keyed to the head stock spindle shaft.
