I'm on the lookout for a decent adjustable tool post for the Fortis lathe i have . Something that won't break the bank ,any suggestions . I've read some horror stories about the chinese made that flex and move about ,are they true ….i don't know .

More a problem with the innards from what I have heard. Sometimes glossy outside and not so good inside.

Myford were selling theirs off at one point at prices scarcely over the other prices but they look to have all gone now and are just selling holders on ebay.

There was a UK company that appeared to be making and selling them but I am not sure who they are. Some one else may know.

Failing that I would say the best option is a dealer that is known to try. 2 spring to mind. ArkEuro and Amadeal / HarryUK123 on ebay.

Those look to be the people and they only seem to be selling the holders now. Really it's the block that needs to be well made. I did use a far eastern clone on a myford I had some time ago. The holders were ok but used soft screws to fix the tool in place and they mushroomed over making it impossible to get them out. Too much pressure on the holder clamp and it came very near to spinning the cam round entirely.

I bought a small self centring 4 jaw to make some more screws out of key steel or square flat ground cast but the lathe went before I got round to making them.

It might be worth contacting them and asking about the whole tool post. They were selling them and they sold well but I don't personally know anyone who bought one.

I have that exact same problem with the toolpost that came on the Fortis soft alen screws and hey have mushroomed also .

If it is only the screw that are the problem, could you not source some good quality replacement screws (Grade 10.9 or 12.9 equivalent)?

I bought mine from Warco about 3 years ago, used it straight from the box and never had any problems. No idea where it was made but definitely far eastern. It is reliably repeatable to .0005" on diameters and is very rigid. Mine is the 125-150mm size, totally satisfied. I want some more holders but they have been out of stock for a while.
