These are the screws used for locking gib strips etc. that have a handle which you can release by pulling it – it gives extra leverage even in situations where there isn’t space to turn the handle full circle.

Anyone know where to buy these, or better still does anyone have a good idea for a way to make them?

The ones fitted to my X2 have all lost their splines – they are only white metal as far as I can see.

Never heard then called that but if you search for ratchet handles or indexable handles you will find loads of hits.

Similar handles are used on Manfrotto [and other] tripod heads and similar.

I have no idea how the quality compares but, inevitably, they are more expensive than ARC’s.

                  Clive,

Very useful lead to ‘Wix Royd’ … thanks!
This version, from their list, looks useful for the next “Rolls Royce job”.

Similar handles can be had from Axminster Tools not sure how good they are but not had any complaints about any of their products so far.

J&L Industrial also do them. A note to watch for generally is that some are plastic and some are metal. I prefer the metal as some of the cheaper plastic ones have a tendency to strip.

I think I remembered the ‘entertaining’ name from an Axminster catalogue many years ago, but the one on their site appears to be plastic.

The ones on the Arc site are aluminium – has anyone got experience of these?

Unfortunately I now have a bigger worry. Seem to have lost both motor and control board on mini lathe due to swarf ingress

                            Hi All,

I've been searching the internet for Bristol levers for my seig sx2p mill

I need ones with a 4mm male thread. The arc ones are 6mm.

                            Anyone know any suppliers.

Tried RS, axminster, j and l etc. no luck

                            Cheers Geoff

Bonham and Turner have a selection in various materials from abs aluminium and stainless. With many threads with both make and femail so you can screw in studs if you like. http://www.boneham.co.uk they are very near to me so I can collect.

If you can source a female lever with the required handle length, is is a simple task to make a shaft to convert from a larger thread to M4 and loctite it place. Michael

Don't forget Ebay, lots on there. What I like about the 'bay for this sort of thing is that the price you see is the price you pay. If postage is to be paid its there, no finding out as you wade through the order process, likewise with VAT.

Arc Euro Trade used to list them, for M5, M6 and M8 Nut or stud types.

                                                References were: 084 – 013 – 00040, 00050, 00063, for Nut types

But can't find them on the website, under these numbers.

A search on Indexaable Handles brings them up, but a search shows 15 types, as what like spares for SX Milling Machines..

Still struggling to find what I want at the right price.

John MC you are quite right about postage and VAT. Dereks link above has the ideal lever for my machine. Two @ £3.60 each is fine but with £9.99 delivery + VAT we have a WOPPING £20.30.

Cotel have a minimum order of £25 + VAT and postage and Bonehams only have M5 with a handle that is too long + VAT and £7 postage.

No M4 on ebay that I can find.

                                                  Hey ho, I'll keep trying.

                                                    NO, Geoff.

I mentioned what Arc Euro had on offer. Stub Mandrel is looking for replacements for his SX mill, so that would seem to be the place to go.

If you are desperate for M4 handles, how about getting M5 or M6 stud type and stripping them? You can then turn them down to 4mm diameter and cut a M4 thread with a Die. Core diameter of M5 is 4.2mm, so the original thread will be gone.

If you are looking for Nut type, again, go for an oversize type, Make an externally threaded plug and drill and tap it M4.

Berger tools and WDS both show extensive ranges of these handles in male and female thread versions in pretty much all sizes from M3 upwards.
