I followed MCB’s link, and ‘watched’ the ebay Taig item

Next time I checked my eMail … I had this:

      .

      a9c72494-f129-422f-914a-ee5e08418e14.jpeg

      .

Do Sellers pay extra for this sort of thing, or is ebay’s bot out-of control ?

The person selling the lathe wrote and told me

At present, it seems a bargain

This may be a naive question, but why does he have 100% good feedback if he scams people?

Why have the people scammed NOT left bad reports?

All of his feedback is for items he has purchased. There is none for sales. I don't know if that makes him/her a scammer though.

As Brian said, no feedback as a seller.

Also the clues are very obvious, it's a new account, it's collect from a very far away (for most of us) place or delivery with payment by bank transfer, no paypal accepted.

After the scam ebay will close the account and he will just use a different name and account.

If you go to ebay number 402625615279 and look at the feedback you see what I mean.

                    Also as an aside.

He obviously picks his target audience. Model engineering is not a cheap hobby, and most of us are old school, honourable people, and assume we will be dealing with, and conversing with the same. I have bought and sold model engineers bits and pieces on ebay with great success, I have also bought and sold other things with nothing but trouble from unreasonable people, or people that can not afford what they bid for.

                      Another naive question,

Has anyone made the police aware?

Doesnt matter if they investigate and advertiser subsequently proved to be genuine, if it's reported in good faith, it's OK.

The exact Boxford lathe was listed by a guy in Southend Nov 2019.

Do we have any members in that neck of the wood? If so the best solution is for them to invite their (local authority) trading standards officer to investigate, citing the information available on this thread.

They can act more effectively Ghan the Police at an early stage and, to be fair, Action Fraud are really seeking bigger fish.

I sold that Boxford a couple of months back. He has copied my ad and photographs vebatim, so definately a scam, again.

John, there is no, "neck of the woods" He won't be based there, he could be based anywhere, abroad even.

What about calling his bluff by making an attempt to purchase it on condition of prior inspection?

You should report it for theft of your listing IP. Strangely ebay seem more likely to respond to that.

This guy does seem to be a lot more creative in his listings.

When he scammed me the bank was in Swindon, but I think it was their head office.

I think it is easy enough to set up an online bank account any where in thee country, or even the world.
