Not true, TEE Publishing still shows  Workshop Techniques Geo H Thomas, Edited by W A Bennett as in stock at £26.95 +p&p. Chapter 7 shows Sensitive Drill details

You often see them on E-Bay – usually under model engineering as well.

I think Stephen is interested in the Pillar tool?

The Model Engineers Workshop Manual” is an important book and should be in everyone’s library, but contains nothing about the Pillar Tool.

If this is also valid for the other book I don’t,know.

But I am quite sure that there is a book by GHT: “Building the Pillar Tool”.

Unfortunately I cannot find mine at the moment

                    Greetings, Hansrudolf

                      Greetings, Hansrudolf

It is also described fully in his Book “Workshop Techniques”. Along with many other valuable articles and information.

Problem with eBay now is that books such as this which are described as out of print often go for ridiculous prices whether or not they are.

Hi Terry, I’ve seen this tactic on ebay several times, often described as “rare” but then when you search for a specific item its flooded with rare ones, very strange, pays to really search and shop around before you hit the commit to buy tab.

                        Regards Nick.

Howevever as Kwil has already pointed out, “Workshop Techniques” by Geo H Thomas, Edited by W A Bennett is available from TEE Publishing.
This book is a combined work comprising both Building the Universal Pillar Tool and Dividing and Graduating

I actually bought a copy from MyHobbystore a few months ago, but for some reason they no longer carry any of the TEE books.

                            Hi Nick,

A few years ago now, a guy was selling a famous Meccano construction tips book on eBay. He described it correctly as out of print and incorrectly as rare. He sold the book for over £10.00, not exactly a kings ransom, but he was also selling it from his website at the time for £2.50. Scam or a case of caveat emptor? I could never decide.

                              Hi Stephen,

Available on Amazon see here at £22.75 saving £4.20 on price and get to save the postage (£2.75 at TEE) as it is eligible for free delivery. I learned the hard way.

Amazon is also invariably cheaper on the Workshop Techniques books. Sometimes substantially cheaper even with postage.

Thanks again can i just confirm that the book Workshop Techniques is the one which covers the Mini Drill article. I have just bought a basic U P T with table and tapping accesories, and having seen the pictures of the mini drill would really like to build one .Not had any experince with quills and that sort of drive.
