That surprises me. I've been wearing ball caps for many years and don't recall the bill being an issue, even with others in benchrest competition's. What type of rifle / sight combination are you using if I may ask ? pict0065.jpg

I only have one – given to me when I visited Box Hill model engineers in Melbourne.

I think the biggest effect on IQ is whether you curve the brim or leave it flat.

An apparently chargeable offence (in the RAF) was to modify the peak of ones cap by breaking the stitches and tilting the peak downwards.

Certain clever DIs and MPs managed to achieve a result such that the peak touched their nose while their eyes appeared one on each side, thus adding to their fearsome appearance.

There’s also a joke somewhere about needing eyes wide-enough apart to see through the windows of a railway engine.

Anschutz M54 #1411 with a Nightforce 15-55 x 52 scope. Not much eye relief on full power so brim touches scope.

A Patriot at last albeit prepared to wear such headgear off the field shows a lack of class. Boater or Panama depending on the occasion, please, and certainly never show an affinity for headgear favoured by colonial seperatists. Global warming may lead me to upgrade to a solar topi…

Wearing of a school cap was enforced at my school and a snood when I was an apprentice in the machine shops. I do not like wearing a hat but it is preferable to a burnt head so a panama and RayBans combat the sun, staying in the shade or indoors is my preference.

I feel compelled to mention that the shooting fraternity have an interesting version of the 'baseball' cap…it has an extra long peak with side flaps that can be unbuttoned and let down……it's indispensible when developing ones 'tunnel vision'………

                                Yes, a most entertaining topic.

Basically this type of cap is used for Cross the Course and High Power competitions, and is most beneficial when shooting prone on the line to minimize getting hit in the face from the ejected empties when an adjacent competitor is a semi automatic rifle. Nothing is worse than having a hot shell casing take residence behind your ear, ha ha.

"Anyone who isn't like me is an idiot".

Aside from the few genuinely light hearted attempts at humour there are some real elitist idiots commenting on here. Pigeon holing people because of their headgear, how childish. I tended to wear one because I don't like getting sun burned and they don't get in the way when rushing to get your head under cars in the pit-lane.

This forum is becoming a real hotbed of misery and small minds. Pathetic.

Early lesson in sheet work, putting a bend in sheet material creates stiffning.

Grasp cap in fist such that peak is forced into a tight curve. Wack school freind on head with cap creating a satisfying thwap noise. Run away quick.

                                            Great fun school caps.

                                            regards Martin

We had the lectures that we represented the school while in uniform which certainly put a damper on getting up to no good after school. I cycled to school and was adept at getting my cap out of my pocket and putting it on my head as I got near enough to school to be spotted by the masters who used the bus to get to school. The peak fitted nicely inside the cap so that it could be stowed nearly flat in your blazer pocket ready for action if required.
