      Hi
There as been interest lately on

threading with 13/16 dies ect in the tailstock. I measured a M&W one that measured + 10 thou I made these So they could float about that amount. Note the sliding slot so i can thread under power

or use my mandrel handle. The collar on the right fits behind sliding part to give it a start using tailstock handle then it slides.

          Hi Nobby,
Nice looking kit you have there.
I power thread, sometimes, but I do not fix my dies rigidly. I use a short lever to hold the die-holder under power, it is short enough to be able to spin if let go and not clobber the cross slide. By holding the knob of the lever between finger and thumb, I can let go if there is too much torque and the die just spins harmlessly. I can die a thread right up to a shoulder this way, which is often useful. It is much cheaper to have a short lever than, say, buy a Hemingway die holder kit with a built in clutch.
I much prefer to use a Coventry die head as you can take a roughing cut followed by a finishing one, but at the moment I only have Imp threaded chasers, hence the need to use a tail stock die holder when cutting Metric.

I removed the lever from my holder and just rely on hand grip, safer than having a lever spinning round when the die bottoms out. Also use grub screws for adjustment that are below the surface for the same reason.

Thanks for input on this . A good idea i will chance a.c.swrews to grub screws incase i need to cut a longer thread .as you can see when it reaches the end of the slot the diehead then spins. More thought need here
              Regards Nobby
