Another mystery of the super heater, would appear to be the absence of any 'rule of thumb' regarding the size of the super heater tubes, and number required. I am repairing a 5 inch Black Five and have found 4 stainless tubes with an internal diameter of around 3/32, is not adequate – the loco simply wont pull loads. Looking at M Evans books, I see he shows drawings with tubes as large as 7/32 OD.
Any ideas?
