Rotary table vernier help please

Hi folks

I have just joined your forum and have a newbie question.

I have a Soba 115mm rotary table and have used it for a few years without an issue. 90:1 From Chronos

I 'thought' I knew how to read the vernier but now I'm doubting my sanity.I

I wanted to show someone how to use the vernier to read seconds. It is scaled 60, 40, 20, 0, 20, 40, 60.

My understanding of the vernier is that to increase by 20 sec, the next minute mark is advanced until it aligns with the 20 sec mark, if 40 sec is required the the next minute mark is advanced until it aligns.

My logic says that if I advance it to the 60 mark then I'd just as easy have advanced the dial to the next minute.

My problem is that either my logic is wrong or the vernier should be marked 30,20,10,0,10,20,30. As the zero point on the vernier points bang on in the middle of the the next minute.

If I haven't explained myself properly, I will try to add some pictures that I took.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had already seen that thread and was actually going to continue it with my query, but even going to the instruction manual, it seems a bit vague on the vernier.

Hopefully, the pictures I just posted will clarify my problem.

Just spotted that the pics come out in reverse order. So the last one is the starting point

Each division on the handwheel is 2 mins, so in that photo you are mid way between 2degrees and 2 deg 2 min which is 2 deg and one min or as the veneer shows 2 deg and 60secs which are one in the same

I wish I could say I knew that and was just testing you guys !!

I can't believe I didn't figure that out !! Duh !!

Hopefully someone else can learn from this and won't have to ask the same dumb question again
