Restore a Beam Engine

Hi All

I've inherited a steam beam engine from my Grandfather, which has been in a loft for 35 years. Out of respect to my Grandfather, I would really like to have this restored, but know nothing about steam engines or where to start.

If anyone could advise me on where I could seek assistance ideally in the west of scotland that would be much appreciated.

Hi David – this isn't massively useful, but a start might be to look up Keith Appleton's video's on YouTube, he has a whole series on restoring old model engines like these and he has a thoughtful style to his presentations.

Does not look too bad to me, I'd just get it running and leave that nice old patina.

dont go cleaning and polishing it! that patina is what adds value
