Motor Setup

The lathe is coming on I will get the Tailstock drilled out but I now have the issue of how the motor, clutch and pulleys fit. Please see attached photos of what I have, any ideas? I think I am missing something from the rear but do not knw what its called I assume it has a couple of gears on it ??

The missing part is the 'backgear layshaft' which has two gears, one large one small. However it is not essential to getting the lathe going to start with.

Do you understand how the belt drive is arranged? Your first picture in album shows it more assembled. It needs to be arranged so that the weight of the motor helps tension the belts.

Hi Ian the part that you are missing is the back gear. There is an eccentric shaft with handle and two gears which mesh with the two gears that are on the main shaft after the Bull gear has been disconnected.

Bazyle, To be frank No. I understand the principle its how I set it up though? How will the motor assist with tension of the clutch is in between the motor and the lathe.

Ian, look at the first photo in the 'Zyto owners only' thread. If you can set it up a bit like that, but with the mounting point nearer the late and the main arm leaning backwards then it puts tension on the belt. In the Zyto version he has an arm to hold it upright and apply tension. In David's second picture above there is a horizontal knurled nut which is another method of pushing the intermediate shaft assembly back which you might need if the motor weight is not enough.

The amount of belt tension can be adjusted on a hinged mounting plate by moving the motor further or closer to the hinge point. I might be worth turning your timing belt inside out, if nothing else it will be quieter.
