Mechanical lubricator

Hi, I would like to buy a couple of mechanical lubricators of about 1 x 1 1/4″ but not sure which would be best, the rachet type or the clutch type. Also could anyone recommend some suppliers.

Hi Garry. Can you give us a bit more info as what you are trying to lubricate or reasons to lubricate please.

Hi David, thanks for the reply. I’m building the 5″ Loco BR STD Class 4, 2-6-4 Tank by Doug Hewson and the lubricators are for the piston valve and pistons. I’ve used both sorts in the past, but just wondered which ones modellers prefer. Also asked about the suppliers because there seems to be alot of suppliers with out of stock items at the momment.

Reeves 2000 don’t seem to be indicating oos for their ratchet lubricators. My limited experience is with the ratchet type, home-buillt, which I’ve found reliable so if I were buying I think that I’d favour those despite the extra cost. A friend has told me that his clutch type lubricator can be temperamental but that’s a very limited sample.

This is the one I made for my 5″ SPEEDY- I bought the ratchet wheel from one of the advertisers.
