McM carry a vast amount of items and I don't believe any UK company can match what they sell.

When I wanted to purchase from them several years ago they wouldn't ship to Europe, I don't know if it still applies.

RS, Farnell, Cromwell/Zoro, MSC must be the main contenders.

Last time I asked a similar question … Oldiron suggested MSC as a possibility

As an online place MSC is about the best we have.

Zoro/Cromwell/GTSS have not even got an online catalogue!

Misumi used to be a comparable option, and still are for work, but since January they have slapped a charge of something like £15 on UK orders.

Cromwell seem to have an on-line catalogue/ordering system, depending on what you mean by catalogue

A few years ago I ordered from Cromwell and set it to deliver to my work so as not to have a parcel left outside my home. They seem only to deal with tiny shed sized businesses, not ones with 12,000 emplyees. So the package turned up with no purchaser name or order reference, just the company name. It was only when I confirmed it had actually been delivered that I was able to check with our postroom staff for any mystery package they didn't know who to pass to. Rather odd as one would expect a B2B supplier to understand the need for Delivery Notes etc.

My disappointment at being unable to make use of this supplier here in the UK is slightly tempered by the fact that some of their products seem somewhat dearer than I can get them in the UK [medium and high tensile threaded bar, for example*] and sometimes the selection of metric items [as opposed to imperial] is, as you'd expect, quite scanty.

If it's any consolation, McMaster-Carr is no better at dealing with individuals in Canada across a (more or less) open border. (Canadian company accounts are dealt with OK)

Some years ago, I queried them on this and got the following response:

"Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, due to the ever increasing complexity of United States export regulations, McMaster-Carr will only process orders from a few long-established customers in Canada. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this causes you. "

They do, I believe, deal with individuals in the US.

The next best thing to buying from McMaster-Carr is having free access to all their parts as 3D model downloads in Fusion 360.

Few years ago I bought from them a leadscew and to get it to Europe I had to use an agent.

This was weird experience – agent made surcharge 100% (this fortunately included all duties and postage), all payable up front, and I had to wait several months (~ about 4 months) for my item to arrive.

At some point I have thought that I got heartlessly cheated because it was no longer possible o contact said agent in usual way but an item finally arrived (imperial leadscrew no longer available in Europe).

I have ordered quite a few things from McMaster-Carr, and they give good service.

And I have used a lot of their 2D and 3D models that can be downloaded for many of their parts.

Never had a problem with them (I am in the US).

I have ordered things from the UK, mainly such as books, but also some equipment, and had good luck with that too, but it takes a while when you cross borders, and a VAT-type fee generally will kick in one way or another.

                                              .

I think Misumi used to have a UK warehouse and office but moved it all to Germany as a European hub. Back then it was no trouble to get things from them next day, that became a week when they moved out. Berger still have a UK base.
