      Who'd have thought so little could generate so much! Must remember to attach a detailed glossary to future posts.

      .

      Thanks, Andrew … I will take that as an answer to my question.

        @jasonb

        Dave, unlike they typical grey cast iron bar and castings that fall under the "dirty cast iron" heading SG iron is almost like steel to machine so no black bogies, etc Some does smell a bit due to the sulphur content that can hang about in the workshop for a few days.

        M-Machine do sell SG iron bar but can't see it being worth the extra cost for this use.

          Thanks, Gordon

          Yes … as I said to Jason, I have read and understood Willman's explanation.

          So you would have read this bit, which is much like Andrew's use of "cast iron" My bold.

          "Cast iron refers to all iron parts that are cast and have a high carbon content, but in normal usage, “cast iron” refers to gray iron………………………….."

          May be different in pedant usage than normal usage.

            Yes I did, Jason … BUT

            This thread is about WHICH GRADE of cast iron [see the title]

            I asked Andrew a perfectly reasonable question.

            Please give it a rest.
