        Good afternoon.

In Beginners questions Chris Matthews posted a thread on the 26th of November, entitled WM 240 cross slide. I've got one of these on order and wanted to ask Chris if he contacted Warco regarding his problem, and if he did what their response was.

I've posted on the thread and tried 'messaging' him, but with no success.

Is there a way of obtaining his email address so that I can email him please.

        Many thanks Noel

We don't usually give out members e-mail details.

Providing private personal data, to a third party, is not permissible under the data protection act?

Hi and thanks for the replies. I somehow thought it was going to be difficult.

As an alternative, might it be possible for someone in Admin to use the address, held on record, to send Chris an email drawing his attention to my request. I doubt that contravenes the data protection act.

I find it strange when forum members ask for help, get answers, but then never finish the story. I suppose once they solve their problem there's no need to return.

              Cheers Noel

It satisfies our curiosity when they do tell us the outcome.

And, in view of the advice given so freely on this Forum, it is a courtesy to those who tried to help.

Hi Howard I concur Cheers Noel

PS When I get delivery of my new WM 240 in january, the first thing I will do is put a square on the cross slide, and then report back, promise.

I would not worry unduly about it, that post prompted me to put a square against my WM280 and the sides are not true to the top. has mot made one jot of difference to what I have made on it in the last 10years.

                      Hi Jason

                      Thanks for the post.

I can well imagine that if it's only that the sides are not square to the top, and that the cross slide is parallel to the saddle, then there is little cause for concern.

However Chris's lathe is brand new, the photographs not only show the top to be out of square, but that the T slots are not the same width. The right hand side looks to be tipped towards the centre, and the square also appears to support this.

I honestly don't think the bodge of filling the T nuts, on a brand new machine is acceptable, given that you would always have to identify the filed nuts, unless of course you filed them all, and had the left hand pair undersized.

Warco have always provided me with excellent customer service and I've no doubt Roger has dealt with Chris's problem in his usual exemplary way. I accept that I can wait until the 3rd of January and check my 240. However it would be 'nice' to know how Chris faired Which is why I asked if it would be possible for admin to email Chris and ask what happened.

                      Thanks Noel

                        Noel,

The best approach is to send me an email I can forward with your address.

Hello all, Im a bit curious as to what harm it would do in giving out the chaps email address !. Data protection act you say, you cant even have a dental check up now without filling a form in because of the DPA.

Yet, type a post code into google and theres your house for everyone to see. Now that IS worrying…….

                          Good health to all.

                            Hi Neil.

                            I've done as you suggested.

                            Many thanks Noel
