Fault on Optimum 180 x 300 Variio Lathe

Hi, I have a Optimum Lathe that as an electrical fault. I do not know why and wonder if anyone has any idea's. There is power to on/off switch this is pulling in solenoid but the variable switch to power motor is not working. Thank you for any help you can give me. John Young

Is the chuck guard down and the pully cover closed correctly, both have safety lockouts which stop the machine working if not down/closed.

 

Neil, Optimum D 180×300 Vario is the model (not a current name)
