I am having diffuclty obtaining 3 and 4BA hex head machined nuts, bolts and studs. I want them for assembling side frames to my 1/8 scale cable shovel and they need to look authentic. Ideally I am looking for material to be HT steel for the bolts which will need 1/8 / 3/16 of shank below the head. I could probably adapt capscrews with shank fot the studs if stuck. If anybody has any suggestions as to where I can obtain these little treasures I would appreciate it. I could try machining the bolts myself but would prefer using the time for other things.

99% of the ME fasteners are fully threaded hex head screws rather than bolts with a partial thread, studs are really a case of making your own as the permutations of thread, OA length and unthreaded length as so great suppliers could never hold all in stock. Also no stress grading as they tend to be from a free cutting leaded steel.

EKP do machined BA hex head screws, nuts and a few studs.

            Might be worth trying here.

                Geoff,

If metric was acceptable, have a look at Conrad Electronics – I've bought their hex-headed NP brass to use as battery contacts in the past.

I hope I'm not too late for somebody … I have found LAS Aerospace to be a good source of small quantities of 2BA, 4BA, 6BA, as well as lots of UNF sizes. They don't do rockets to the moon, as you might guess from their title, but stuff for light aircraft. Lots of sizes of small rivets, too – real rivets not pop, I mean.

http://www.lasaero.com – they are based in Exeter UK

                  Cheers, Tim
