      Hi All,

The (slightly tortuous) title says it all I think – I have a couple of sets of these burrs, some sourced from Dremel and clones, others that I bought many (many!) moons ago.

Apart from the obvious glass, ceramics and other super hard stuff, are they any use for softer materials. In this specific case, I am thinking of a tough but not unmachinable steel where a Dremel based grinding action would be much preferable to a simple lathe tool.

      Thoughts welcomed…

Yes but no but maybe! The problem with grinding or filing soft materials is their tendency to stick to the tool and bury the cutting edges so it stops working. Made worse when the teeth (or diamonds) are tiny.

Apart from the need to keep the burrs clean will be OK but keeping them clean may be more trouble than it's worth. Depends on the material and the cutter – give it a try.

Use a set of cheap diamond burrs bought years ago for all sorts of materials, never had any problems with them, just give them a try.

Saved me many an hour on odd shaped castings etc that need cleaning up.
