      Hello All,

I would like an appraisal of the value of my late fathers Milling machine, details below. The machine is located in the Bolton area within the UK. I do have an idea of what i would like to get for it, but what people would be willing to pay is a different thing

Please let me know your thoughts….

      Chester Machines Champion Mill Mk1

      • Purchased New around 2000-2002
      • Not used except a couple of times since mid 2003 (due to accident preventing use)

      • Bed size approximately 25” x 6”
      • No damage to bed, gibs may need a little adjustment.
      • Includes free 240V mains magnetic lamp
      • Includes free basic DRO but no scales on Mill

          Hello Matt,

Sorry to hear of your loss and the circumstances behind the sale.

Round column milling machines tend to command sale values of less than the more rigid dovetail column machines mainly because of the loss of position with the cutting tool if the job involves a change of height during the course of the work. There are workarounds with laser pointers and the like, aimed at fixed vertical positions in the workshop but it is all a faddle to be managed and can become tedious.

That said, your late father's machine has barely been used, appears to be in good shape and is well equipped with desirable accessories such as a DRO and the power feed to the table motion.

I imagine it should fetch a rather similar price to a decently cared for Dore-Westbury machine, say £600-£700 or even more if there is competition for ownership

I wish you luck with the sale

          Kind regards Brian

PS There were some markings on the column at the top of it which puzzled me, but I don't suppose the head can be lowered to the point where they might be an issue.

Edit 2  Oh silly me, it is the chuck I can see which is superimposed in a strategic position on the column ! Forget the comment please
