It makes you wonder what these printer manufacturers are up to these days re: the blocked nozzle curse. Back in the early days of ink jets I had access to an Epson Stylus black only inkjet printer. I only used it now and again and it would sit for months on end unused in my brothers office but would always print perfectly when needed.

When my brother retired the printer had not been used for perhaps eighteen months and just before it went into the skip with his ancient 386 PC I briefly gave it a try – it was still printing perfectly!

I started by saying that It makes you wonder what these printer manufacturers are up to these days but on reflection I KNOW what they are up to. Doesn't it just make you seethe?

Thanks Maurice, will give them a try.

        Rick,

Full marks to Epson for their 'tank' models.

They where scared stiff that the higher price would have killed their idea, but the complete reverse.

Other manufacturers WILL have to respond now, and at last, as they have had their years of ripping us of come to an end.

On the subject of ripping-us off, what about shaver cartridge blades, I will do a separate post on a no cost method of sharpening.

Geoff – Trying to consume a slice of ghastly sweet cream sponge cake from a supermarket (M . . .s) and nearly gagging it's so bad, so out for the birds in the morning

I bought a Samsung 460 series multifunction machine 3 years ago. Good printer and very capable.

Wish they would bring out a "tank" system for lasers!

Have had most inkjet makes over the last two decades and will never ever buy another HP after the last two that never worked from new. Still waiting on a £50 cashback from 5 years ago, customer service useless. I would take with a pinch of salt HP claims of X amount of prints 600 colour I wasn't getting 90 prints at £110 a chuck genuine £15 refillable. They don't like aftermarket cartridges either and the chips have to be used by sell by date whether cartridge full or not.

Any printer you will have to look at the disguised running costs, non worse than the cheap colour lasers for up to £180 which are only supplied with starter toners. In no time at all Samsung will knock you over £230 for new toners so that cheap £130 now turns in to £360 hence why so many cheap lasers for sale without toner/s.
Do have a Brother MFC 9460 the last before they went chipped, toners are refillable and cheap even the genuine, newer ones you cant refill.

Weighing all the cons up I ended up with an Epson ET2550 from PCWorld back in April with £30 Epson promotion making it £170 plus 3yr guarantee.
It can spend weeks doing nothing then power up for one page in seconds or print 100's of pages with its small capacity paper feed, does me.
So far the blacks just about started to drop mixed A4 photos and black text probably done around 800 to now, the 3 colours no sign of movement. Beauty is at this rate old HP 940XL's I would be on 2nd set of cartridges £220 so far.
Downside is the ET 2550 is a basic printer comparable to sub £90 offerings, if it lasts 3 years I will be saving £600 running costs.

I can't say you look like an expert on shaving Geoff….
