        Evening all,

What would be the best way to join? Superb belt (flat) takes a tone of tension. Bought it in my early days and opted for a cut style, tapered ends type. Used super glue from the off but over a period of time its degrades and dis-bonds (couple of months or so)

        Cheers David.

It's a long time ago and on just a little lathe but I scarfed the ends of flat leather belting , fed the belt around the mandrel pulley, and stuck the overlapped ends together with EVOSTICK. When all was set I took a small hand drill and made a pattern of holes and stitched through these with waxed thread. Seemed to work OK.

          Regards

          Norma

            David,

Scarf joint and Vulcanising is mentioned here, but Norman's approach seems good for DIY.

Thats were I bought it from. Incredibly helpful fella, I was thinking '' why did I not buy an endless belt'' answer being I didn't want to remove the spindle from the lathe which I did in the end. Anyway think I will stick (excuse the pun) with super glue. drilling holes and stiching? Not sure if thats a good idea. With tension and time the holes will elongate and wreck the belt.

              David.

Super glue tends to set as rather inflexible, a stitched Evostik joint would be more flexible and longer lasting

                Regards
